Jacqueline Walker

Hailing from Sydney originally, Jacqui has worked in a number of legal jurisdictions and has finally settled in sunny Newcastle. In her present role at Turnbull Hill Lawyers, she is involved in resolving contract and business disputes by way of litigation, or alternative dispute resolution, in the areas of engineering and construction, corporate insolvency and debt recovery, corporate governance and trade practices, tax and other finance, intellectual property and copyright and in respect of other commercial disputes including contract enforcement. Jacqui is efficient, personable and down-to-earth, priding herself in providing accurate and practical advice to her clients.

Admitted as a solicitor in May 2003, Jacqui has enjoyed a varied legal career, working across a number of areas of law. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 2002, Jacqui commenced her clerkship with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Sydney where she worked as a solicitor until 2006. During that time, she appeared and instructed Counsel in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW in a range of criminal matters.

A brief foray into the world of copywriting and advertising was followed by a sojourn to the mother country to enjoy a working holiday. It was not all play and no work: Jacqui acquired invaluable experience as a solicitor with the Treasury Solicitor’s Office in London, primarily giving legal and practical advice to the Home Office in respect of judicial reviews concerning asylum claim decisions before accepting a position as in-house legal adviser to the Law Society of England and Wales, where she worked in the area of representative litigation. At the Law Society, Jacqui was responsible for the strategic co-ordination of the Law Society’s response to the organisation’s customers and dealing with, and providing solutions to, a wide variety of complex legal and strategic problems on a day to day basis.

From a personal perspective, the London highlights included delivering a bottle of whisky to Gordon Brown at Number 10 and seeing Australia beat Wales at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff at a World Cup Rugby match in 2007. In her spare time, Jacqui moonlights as an amateur theatre performer, including singing, dancing and playing the piano. She enjoys watching movies, AFL, creative writing, relaxing at the beach and spending time with family and friends. She is thrilled with her recent move, adores the proximity to the coast and yes, she does not miss the Sydney traffic.
