Stephen Bourne

After 10 years working in insurance management roles, and a period as a government departmental manager, Stephen completed his legal training in 1997, and was admitted to the bar in New Zealand and subsequently in New South Wales. Initially Stephen undertook work as a solicitor in relation to civil, commercial, and employment matters. However, he has also undertaken criminal law work, including jury trials, and has appeared as counsel in relation to family law matters.

Since establishing his own office in Sydney in 2004, Stephen has particularly enjoyed working on family law and estate cases, while also continuing to provide commercial law advice, particularly in the areas of directors obligations, shareholder agreements, employment law, intellectual property, technology law, the formation of contracts, contract disputes, aviation and shipping law, and insurance law.

Now part of the Family Law Team at Turnbull Hill Lawyers, Stephen continues to provide practical and effective legal advice to clients following relationship breakdown, such as parenting disputes, property settlements and divorce, and in relation to other family law matters. You'll also find him sometimes representing defendants in the criminal courts, and, on other days, working closely with clients who have special needs in the areas of estate planning and the structuring of family businesses.

On the personal front, Stephen is still finding his way around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, but, with the help of his trusty GPS, he has been able to find and enjoy the many highlights of the Hunter region.
